Durrus Cheese Dairy

Our Dairy

Like so many farmhouse cheesemakers in the past, Jeffa milked her cows in the milking parlour, and started making cheese in her kitchen. Not long after producing the first wheels of Durrus Cheese, a dedicated dairy room was built onto the farmhouse. As demand for Durrus Cheese grew in the 1980s, a new dairy building was constructed, that to this day houses our cheesemaking room, curing rooms, and the great Swiss copper vat where all our cheese is made.

Some years later again, our old haybarn was transformed to house new curing, packing, and dispatch rooms.

And the old milking parlour where Jeffa used to milk her cows by hand: what became of that? It is now our showroom - where we welcome visitors to Durrus Cheese.
